Croat wins St Petersburg Open
Croat tennis star Marin Cilic won glory at the St. Petersburg Open, taking the title in a three-set match on October 30th.
The 23-year-old Croat trounced Serbian hopeful Janko Tipsarevic 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, before an engrossed St.Petersburg crowd.
It was a sweet victory for Cilic, who had lost three ATP finals this year.
The Croat's victory marks his sixth ATP title of his career, dating back to his first triumph in New Haven, Connecticut, in August 2008.
It was no walkover for Cilic, however, as Tipsarevic has been on impressive form this season, winning the Moscow Open the previous week.
"I played the first two sets a little bit up and down and had some unforced errors," Cilic told Associated Press.
"But I played my best tennis in the third set. I lost three finals this year and all of them were in three sets. So today, when the match went into the third set, I was really in it to win."
