Helping South Ossetians

The city of St. Petersburg has been organizing a variety of humanitarian efforts in the last couple of weeks in aid of South Ossetians caught in the recent military conflict between Russia and Georgia.

The city administration has opened a centre for collecting items such as clothing for South Ossetians as well as a blood drive for the injured. A bank account has also been opened to accept donations.

St. Petersburg has also been organizing space for refugees in their infrastructure including sending South Ossetian children to summer camps in the area. Hospitals have also been prepared to treat and rehabilitate those injured in the conflict.

Of the approximately 4500 Ossetians living in St. Petersburg, about 100 have already gone as volunteers to the area.
