Yes, Wednesday September 12th, is officially bonking day in the region of Ulyanovsk in Russia. Well officially it's 'family contact day', but that's just a euphemism. Sergei Morozov is determined to raise the birth rate in his province and has given everyone the day off work to spread some love.
With Russia's population in sharp decline, Morozov is acting to ensure that in future years the Ulyanovsk region doesn't resemble a geriatric home. For the third year in a row he's offering couples who give birth to a child on Lenin's birthday, 12th June (exactly nine months from today) an SUV car as a reward for their productivity.
The bizarre initiative seems to have worked at the region's birth rate went up 4.5% last year! |
